Liberating the NHS

Thanks to the Chemist and Druggist for a great night at their annual awards last night presented by Giles Brandreth. We didn’t win but enjoyed the event none the less. Giles was very amusing and despite statrting off in the wrong awards (we started off in the A4U awards) a fun time was had by all!

The generic drug company Generics [UK] Limited (GUK) has changed it’s name to Mylan.

Mylan in the UK is a leading developer and supplier of generic medicines with a growing portfolio of over 350 products sold to retailers and wholesalers and throughout the National Health Service.

Postal Strikes

If you post your repeat prescription request to the surgery and are worried about the postal strikes try ordering your repeat prescription online instead. You will also be supporting your local community pharmacy.

Repeat Prescriptions

If you require regular medication on prescription, your GP will usually set up a repeat prescription on your computer record. Repeat Prescriptions can then be ordered at set intervals without seeing a doctor in person.

Britain becoming nation of pill-takers?

The Times reported RPSGB research into 2008 prescribing in the NHS. They found that nearly half of over-65s are taking five or more drugs. More than 60 per cent of 500 people surveyed believed that they may be suffering side-effects from their drugs, but many did not tell a doctor.

It’s good when it works.

Swine flu update

The UK has moved from the ‘containment’ to the ‘treatment’ phase of swine flu as the number of people catching swine flu continues to rise.

Further Vascular Checks guidance published

The Department of Health Vascular Team has published further guidance on the national vascular risk assessment programme. They have also published a template patient leaflet for the programme which includes the national branding for the programme – now known as NHS Health Checks.
